Fele?… Are you serious? I walk into your fine establish, ready to spend my hard earned money, dressed in what I consider to be decent business clothes, and the best that this snort-nosed, “I might go through another growth spurt”, “I put colgate on my pimples” nigga can manage is “Fele?”.

What happened to the “Hi sir, what can I get you?” that you just dished through a grin the size of Joburg potholes to the white patron you just served? “Fele?”

“Oh, I’m over-reacting” you might think. Maybe I am, but let’s assume that EVERY store you went into, you were greeted with the following, “Howzit, Chana! Where you looking?” How would you feel? “You kiff, bru?… F****n A, man!” I’m sure you’d feel valued as a customer too. “Need help, old man?”

Now, I’m not even addressing the problem of assuming I speak your african language because I’m black. Fair enough, you are allowed to assume, but when i answer in Zulu, maybe you should assume that we are from different backgrounds and revert to English. No, saying it slowly in Pedi doesn’t make me all of a sunday understand you. You lost me at “Fele?”

I’m not even asking for the same smile that always disappears when you have to serve me, I’m just asking that you get it through your thick dialect that Tsotsi taal is not a suitable business language. “u Grand?” is not a good substitute for “is everything fine with the meal?”

K, mpinsh’am?

New Month, New Free Blackberry Theme – 3G

Okay, so the month is no longer so new. Anyhow, I got myself the Bold 2 and have taken a bit of a while finding new themes that I actually like.

I finally came across this gem, the 3G theme from RedZapper. It’s very clean and allows for preview of your calendar on the today screen as well. The coolest feature for me, is I can go to “Manage Connections” from the today screen. Try it out.

Lost & Found for Blackberry (Free App) – What’s on your gadget?

So it’s Dizember, and we are all over the place, having a braai here, partying here. It’s all big fun, until you lose your blackberry. Luckily, with phone insurance, we can replace the device, but the thought of our personal info and company secrets floating out there is scary.

What if the person who “finds” your Berry decides to take over your life, impersonate you at the pub, pays your mortgage without you knowing or accepts that promotion that you have skilfully dodged up until this point? Thank Heavens for a little conveniences like the app from Ottafone’s PhoneBasics called Lost & Found.

So in a nutshell, in the event that you lost your phone, you can

  • Find your phone by calling it
  • Find your phone by message
  • Locate your lost phone on the map up to the point
  • Lock phone remotely
  • Ring your phone even if it is powered off
